This is a good procedure for anyone who has hair growth in areas not desired, however the best results are generally achieved on individuals with dark hair and light skin.
Dr. Richard Galitz performs laser hair removal procedures in his office at Aventura Plastic Surgery in Aventura, Florida. Smaller treatment areas may take as little as ten minutes to complete while larger or multiple treatment areas may take up to one hour or more. Topical anesthesia is administered and a low-energy laser is then applied to the area of concern. As the laser energy passes through the patient's skin, it is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. This, in turn, disables those hairs in the active growth stage. Because different hairs are in the active stage at different times, multiple sessions are usually needed. The results of laser hair removal are temporary, however the duration of results tends to improve over time and with repeat treatment.
The recovery after laser hair removal is immediate. Some minor redness or swelling may occur but these side effects generally fade within twenty-four hours. Work may be resumed the same day, and exercise may be resumed the following day.
