Treatment with botox injections works by targeting the muscle action that causes the line to appear, then temporarily paralyzes that muscle, allowing the skin to take on a smoother appearance.
Treatment with Botox injections allows patients to enjoy a fresh, rested look, eliminating or greatly reducing frown lines, worry lines, wrinkles, and creasing. Botox has been tested and approved by the FDA and is becoming increasingly popular with people of all ages.
Botox is the trademark of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Large amounts of the toxin cause a form of paralysis known as botulism, but in recent years, researchers have found that small portions of the purified toxin injected directly into a specific muscle will cause only temporary paralysis in that particular muscle action. Originally developed to help control muscle spasms and twitches related to cerebral palsy, Botox has been in use since 1980.
A typical Botox treatment takes only a few minutes, and the Botox goes into effect in three to ten days. The effects fade gradually, over three to five months, and the muscle action will return, causing the lines to reappear. A simple repeat treatment is all that is needed to maintain the desired results
