I've heard of a few different types of Fraxel lasers. What are the differences between them and is one more effective?
Answer:
As with all lasers the difference is in the wavelength and strength. Wavelength affects the type of absorption into the skin and is color sensitive. Strength affects the depth of penetration and the diameter of burn to surrounding tissues. It is not so much which laser is better but which laser is better suited to the problem at hand. Some Fraxels are excellent for vascular based skin problems such as spider veins and angiomas, and also port wine stains. Some Fraxels are best suited for brown lesions like café-au-lait spots. Other Fraxels like CO2 Fraxels work bets for fine wrinkling. See a surgeon who has the whole array available and the necessary experience to both choose and use the right laser for you.
Question: My doctor offers either fraxel or pixel laser resurfacing. What is the difference between the two? Is one better for treating acne scars?
Answer: The Fraxel is a pixelated form of laser. There are different fraxel lasers and they produce different degrees of energy and results. Go over the different lasers carefully with your surgeon.
