Question: I've heard that in an attractive set of lips the upper lip is naturally a bit larger than the lower lip. What is the ideal ratio?
Answer: In the most aesthetically pleasing lips the lower lip is usually 20% larger than the top lip. If the top lip is too large it tends to look like it is protruding.
Question: Is collagen still used for lip augmentation or are hyaluronic acid fillers now the best choice?
Answer: Collagen is a poor choice because it is rapidly removed and possibly antigenic. I prefer Juvederm or Perlane fillers. I also do dermal-fat grafting procedures which are better looking and permanent.
Question: My son is asking for collagen injections for his lips as a birthday present. Are collagen injections recommended for a person in their 20s?
Answer: I personally use Juvederm products in the lips because they are less allergic and last longer. If your son is truly committed to this get a consult from a reputable and experienced plastic surgeon.
I have vertical wrinkles around my mouth, mostly on my upper lip. I have smoked all my life and now I am seeing the results of this habit. These wrinkles look really bad when I use lipstick. What injectable filler would you recommend for my lips? How long do the effects last?
Answer:
Perlane or Juvederm would be excellent and the effect should last 3-9 months.
I’m in my early 20s but I’ve always had a thin, gaunt face and was wondering if fillers would be a good option for me. I guess the cheek area is my main concern. Am I too young for fillers?
Answer:
No you are not too young. I like to use Juvederm Ultra Plus XC in the cheek to fill out the area. It gives good volume, is non-reactive and lasts up tp 9 months.
I keep seeing new injectable fillers on the market and I can’t decide which one I want. Which filler is the “trendiest” and most effective out this year?
Answer:
My filler of choice today is Juvederm XC or Juvederm Ultra Plus XC....they have Xylocaine local anesthetic in the syringes, last 3-9 months depending on the patient, are non-reactive and come in two thicknesses for depth of placement.
